This publication is an online magazine meant to be seen by the masses and contributed to by the masses.  If you are curious, then yes, it is a part of the alternative media.  As an alternative form of press, there are three main goals:

• Entertain
• Educate
• Empower

By entertaining the audience, one has an opportunity to educate them with real information, thus empowering them in the end.  For far too long, there has been a consolidation of mass media into machinations that do not benefit local communities, but rather, they harm them by either witholding important information related to a local community or in some cases giving information that is incorrect or misleading.

I decided to do an online magazine for a simple reason as well.  We already have alternative newspapers, but how often has a surfer of the net seen an*NIXEDBLOG online magazine that felt, well, like a magazine?  This is where I feel I can make an impact, and like the Free and Open Source Software communities, I have my hand open to anybody willing to contribute, whether it be an informative article, an opinion piece, a review of a product/service, etc...  Not only that, I also allow everyone to copy the magazine and give it away to others free of charge!  The best part: The entire publication is being done using Free and Open Source Software!
