From time to time, the Helios Project attempts to raise funding through special events so that expenses can be covered throughout the year while delivering computers to children whose parents can’t afford otherwise.

The prizes for said raffles are quite interesting.  From an Alienware notebook to Carla Schroder’s Linux Networking Cookbook, the variety and diversity of such items is very fascinating….. but not as fascinating as AMD’s 50×15 devices.  It’s a tiny little box that consumes very little power.  This thing came way before netbooks became a household word.  While AMD initially tried to market the device in question, it has since been handed over to another company.  Those who donate $10 gets one entry for the prizes.  An extra $5 will indicate interest in having a memory upgrade on the two notebooks in question.

The fine details can be read by clicking here.  Note that the notebooks in question can not be shipped internationally (only Carla Schroder’s book can) due to it being very expensive to do so.  Also, monetary amounts are in U.S. dollars.
